Episode 3: The Spirit’s Origin
Anayo returned to the village, shaken but alive. Obi refused to speak to him, and the villagers began to view him with suspicion. “You’ve angered Ekwensu,” Nwokocha said. “If you stay, you put us all at risk.”
Determined to make sense of what he saw, Anayo pored over his notes. He pieced together clues from the carvings and artifacts, eventually uncovering a journal hidden in the chief’s hut. It belonged to a British colonial officer who had experimented on the local people decades ago, using chemicals and rituals to “control” the spirit world. One of these experiments went horribly wrong, creating the entity the villagers now called Ekwensu.
Realizing the spirit was no myth but the result of human greed and corruption, Anayo’s scientific curiosity turned to horror. He tried to explain his findings to the villagers, but they refused to listen.
“You brought this upon us,” one woman cried. “You must fix it!”
