THE CALL TO PREACH – NO BOUNDARIES, NO EXCUSES
The call to preach the gospel is not reserved for a select few—it is a command given by Jesus Christ to all believers.
“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15)
The Great Commission is non-negotiable. John Wesley understood this and declared:
“The whole world is my parish.”
Wesley’s conviction meant he would preach anywhere, inside or outside of churches, to anyone who would listen. When church doors were shut to him, he took to the open fields, preaching to thousands under the sky.
Breaking Barriers to Reach Souls
Too often, believers make excuses:
- “I am not a pastor.”
- “I don’t have a platform.”
- “I don’t know what to say.”
But Jesus never said, “Preach only if you are a pastor.” He said, “Go!”
Wesley was a man of action, and he never let opposition silence him. He traveled 250,000 miles on horseback, delivering over 40,000 sermons, because he knew every soul mattered.
The same urgency exists today. The gospel must be preached everywhere—in churches, in homes, at work, on social media, in the streets. The world is perishing, and the message of salvation must be declared.
SALVATION BY FREE GRACE, NOT WORKS
Before his radical transformation, John Wesley was deeply religious but spiritually lost.
He prayed, fasted, gave to the poor, and followed every religious rule, but he had no assurance of salvation. He constantly wondered:
- “Am I truly saved?”
- “Have I done enough?”
Wesley was trapped in a works-based mindset, believing he could earn God’s favor. But one day, he encountered the Moravians, a group of believers with a deep peace and joy. They had what he longed for—a certainty of salvation by grace alone.
The Moment of Revelation
Wesley’s life changed when he heard these words:
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
At that moment, he realized salvation is not earned—it is a gift.
This revelation set him on fire. He preached that Jesus’ sacrifice was enough and that no amount of good works could replace faith in Christ.
“I felt my heart strangely warmed. I felt I did trust in Christ, Christ alone for salvation.” – John Wesley
This free grace gospel changed England, sparked a revival, and laid the foundation for modern evangelism.
Do you have this assurance today?
EMPOWERED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
No revival in history has ever occurred without the power of the Holy Spirit.
In 1739, John Wesley and his fellow ministers gathered for an all-night prayer meeting, desperately seeking God.
Suddenly, something supernatural happened:
“At about three in the morning, as we continued in fervent prayer, the power of God came mightily upon us, so much that many cried out with exceeding joy and fell to the ground. We broke out with one voice: ‘We praise Thee, O God; we acknowledge Thee to be the Lord!’”
This was their Pentecost moment. The fire of the Holy Spirit fell, empowering them to preach with boldness and perform miracles.
The Power to Transform Lives
Wesley and his followers did not just talk about God—they demonstrated His power. The Holy Spirit’s presence caused:
- Deep conviction of sin.
- Supernatural healings.
- Mass conversions.
- A boldness to preach anywhere, even under persecution.
“For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.” (1 Corinthians 4:20)
Without the Holy Spirit, ministry is weak and powerless. The same fire that fell on Wesley is available today. The church must return to seeking, waiting, and being filled with Holy Ghost power.
THE BURDEN FOR SOULS – A HOLY COMPULSION
What drove Wesley to sacrifice everything for the gospel?
It was a burden for souls.
He declared:
“Give me a hundred preachers who fear nothing but sin and desire nothing but God, and I care not whether they be clergy or laymen; such alone will shake the gates of hell and set up the kingdom of heaven on earth.”
Wesley understood that every soul is precious. He saw people dying without Christ and could not remain silent.
A Gospel of Urgency
He knew:
- The lost must be found.
- The broken must be healed.
- The enslaved must be set free.
Many today have lost this urgency. But the fires of hell are real, and the time is short. Every believer must carry the burden of heaven for souls and take action.
Do you feel the weight of eternity?
THE ROLE OF PRAYER IN REVIVAL
The secret to Wesley’s success was not just preaching—it was prayer.
He was known for rising at 4 AM daily to seek God, believing:
“God does nothing but in answer to prayer.”
His revival was built on:
- Personal prayer – seeking God daily.
- Corporate prayer – gathering believers to cry out.
- Fasting and intercession – praying for souls with deep travail.
Revival Comes Through Prayer
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
Wesley and his followers did not rely on human effort. They labored in prayer, and heaven responded.
The church today needs to return to prayer. Without it, we will never see another great awakening.
WILL YOU ANSWER THE CALL?
John Wesley’s life was a challenge to all generations.
He did not make excuses—he went.
He did not seek comfort—he sacrificed.
He did not wait for perfect conditions—he preached anyway.
The Time is Now
“Woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!” (1 Corinthians 9:16)
The gospel must be preached. Will you go?
Like Wesley, will you declare:
“The whole world is my parish.”
Let revival begin with you. Seek the Holy Spirit. Pray for the lost. Preach with boldness.
The harvest is ready. Will you labor for the kingdom?
Glory be to Almighty God.
I love this testimony I pray for more grace to be able to do it and for others too to pick up the mantle and run the race
